- The one-reset rule: a tripped breaker gets one reset. If it trips again, something is wrong on that circuit — unplug everything on it and call. Repeated resetting is how scorched panels happen.
- “Fishy” smell = melting plastic. Overheating electrical insulation gives off a distinct dead-fish odor before visible smoke. If you smell it and can’t find a source, treat it as electrical and call immediately.
- Space heaters are circuit hogs: one 1,500W heater pulls 12.5 amps — nearly a full 15-amp bedroom circuit by itself. Never on an extension cord, never two on one circuit.
- Monsoon rule: if you don’t have whole-home surge protection, unplug the TV and computers when the storm rolls in. Surges ride in on both power and coax lines.
- Wet ground + electrical panel = stop. Never touch a panel while standing on wet concrete or soil. Flip the main only if you can do it dry and standing on something insulating.
- Whole-house flickering is a utility-grade emergency. One flickering light is a fixture; every light dimming and brightening together can be a failing service neutral — call us and APS/SRP right away.
- Never backfeed a generator. Plugging a portable generator into a wall outlet energizes the utility lines and can kill a lineworker. Generators need an interlock or transfer switch — we install both.
