Pro Tips & Straight Answers
- Buy lumens, not watts. Rough guide: 2,000–3,000 lumens total in a bedroom, 6,000–8,000 in a kitchen. Wattage stopped meaning brightness the day LEDs arrived.
- Color temperature cheat sheet: 2700K for living and bedrooms (warm), 3000K for kitchens and baths, 4000K for garages and task lighting. Nothing over 4000K inside a home — that’s parking-lot light.
- LED flicker on the dimmer? The bulbs usually aren’t bad — the dimmer is the wrong type. LEDs want an ELV/trailing-edge dimmer, not the 1990s rotary that came with the house.
- Fan direction matters: counterclockwise (looking up) pushes air down for summer; the winter switch runs it clockwise on low to pull warm air off the ceiling. Free comfort, twice a year.
- DC-motor fans are worth it: ~70% less energy, dead silent, and better speed control. They cost more up front and pay it back in an always-on Phoenix summer.
- Damp-rated vs. wet-rated: covered patios need damp-rated minimum; anything monsoon rain can reach needs wet-rated. Indoor fans on patios corrode into wobbling hazards in two seasons.
- Wafer LEDs have a weak spot: the driver fails before the diodes. Quality models have replaceable drivers — the difference between a 5-minute swap and cutting a new hole in your ceiling.
- Brass outlasts aluminum 3-to-1 outdoors. In landscape lighting, cheap aluminum fixtures pit and die in Valley irrigation spray and dust; brass and copper just patina and keep working.

Can you install fans on high or vaulted ceilings?
Yes — we carry the ladders and rated down-rods for ceilings up to 20+ feet, and we install proper fan-rated boxes with bracing when the existing box is not rated for a fan (most light boxes are not).
What’s the right fan for a covered patio?
A damp-rated or wet-rated fan, depending on exposure. Standard indoor fans corrode fast in monsoon humidity and dust. We will recommend models that hold up.
Are canless LED recessed lights worth it?
Modern canless LED wafers are slimmer, run cooler, cost less to run, and most are rated for insulation contact. For most Valley homes they are the right call — we will walk you through color temperature so the light feels right.
Can you add lighting without tearing up my walls?
Usually, yes. We fish wire through attics and walls with minimal cutting, and we are upfront about any drywall repair a job will need before we start.
